Shankar; Watch video | FilmiBeat Shankar's 2.0 starts with an interesting note and stylish opening credits. Right from the first frame, the filmmaker made it clear that this Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar star will be an exciting journey to the effects of VFX and 3D.
2.0 starts with an old man walking down the aisle looking at a cell phone tower and committing suicide horribly above it. The film moves on to the next photo where a group of robotic students visit Dr. Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth) to learn more about his latest Nila (Amy Jackson).
When he returned, one of the students found that his cell phone had been confiscated. Suddenly, everyone in town was getting their cell phones out of their hands and running out of air. Soon, even the moving towers begin to fall down due to unknown events. Before the people of the city can fully comprehend what is happening around them, a large, feathered bird with feathers built into the cellphone releases huge destruction, threatening everyone.
So, Vaseegaran brings back Chitti, a high-powered robot that has been demolished, to fight the 'fifth army' which has emerged as Pakshi Raja (Akshay Kumar). Speaking on the matter, Shankar tries to get a message out of contact with a hidden person about the state of public entertainment. On the flip side, the film strives to maintain balance when it comes to emotions. To prevent minor jokes here and there, 2.0 has a subtle tone throughout the film. However, it is the effects of VFX and 3D that steal the show and need to be applauded. Working smart, 2.0 is a Rajinikanth show all the way. He is present in almost every frame and holds the film together.
But what stole my heart was the small 3.0 small Kutti Chitti that made a splash of water. While Akshay Kumar may have less screen space than Ithalaivva, the actor presents the performance honestly and we won’t mind seeing him take on gray roles next time! Amy Jackson has limited conversations, but it’s fun to watch on screen. 2.0 stands out when it comes to the technology department. Shankar and his VFX team, sound expert Resul Pookutty, cinematographer Nirav Shah and editor Antony put together the best views that are rarely seen in Indian movies.
Unlike Robot, this film does not have much to explore in the music department. A. R Rahman passes by. In short, 2.0 is coming up with its impressive VFX and 3D effects. A greater focus on writing and the emotional part would have made him a 'King of Heaven'.
